I`ve been visiting this place for over 20 years and in all that time they have never had a Polar Bear at the zoo,they have had Syrian Bears which are very pale and by somebody that doesn`t know much about Bears could be mistaken for a Polar Bear but admittedly it would have to be a very small Polar Bear.

that may have been it. what else was at the WMZ back 20 years? ive worked there for about 3 years (not as a keeper). ive seen that there were once cougars, lions, elephants, wolves and other pretty exciting species.

Sorry but I`m 150% certain that it you`ve mistaken a Syrian Bear for a Polar Bear,as to species no longer at Welsh Mountain any more the ones that spring to mind are Olive Baboons,Sarus Cranes,alot of Birds of Prey they used to have double the number of species they have now,Jungle Cat,Kulan and my personnaly favorite an American Crocodile.

yeah that was just what my boss said. i cant even remember the lions or elephants as im only 18 can you remember the wolf enclosure that was found where the bottom play ground is found now? or the cougars that were in the now snow leopard enclosure before the persian leopard and melanistic leopard?

I think the Wolf enclosure had been handed over to Peafowl by my first visit,and I only remember the Leopards in what is now the Snow Leopard enclosure.Sadly I do remember the Elephants enclosure with Elephants the only one that I have seen that was worse is the one at the old Cardiff Zoo (now the Welsh hawking Centre) and that didn`t have an Elephant in it when I saw it thank God.
