I think that's a dunnock (hedge sparrow) Prunella modularis, but the UK has far more LBJs than in NZ so there may be some similar ones there for confusion.
Definitely Dunnock (Prunella modularis), not a sparrow but the UK's only accentor, as bongorob says. They also have an unusual polyandrous mating system. Really fun, characterful little birds.

If I read any more about dunnocks I think I will go mad but if we are going to get technical they often have a Polygyandry mating system which is even more fun

I have seen them dubbed "Hedge Accentor" which is extremely accurate, and thus probably stands no chance whatsoever of being adopted as the common English name.
