I see a great many Ungulate photos in this Gallery not just here at WMSP, that show heavily overgrazed paddocks. It is definately not good. There should at least be a covering of thin dead grasses a few inches high across the field as you see in most deer parks.
 
yes for calves to hide in when the hinds are feeding. but they should move some of the animals of the reserves during the winter and spread muck on the feilds to engourage groth. i think by moving on some animals might help to. we manage our feilds well at longleat cause we have alot more feilds for the aniamls to go on during the winter
 
My point about the length of grass really was that it indicates the animals can leave the dead grass as there is enough good grass for them to eat. In this photo the dead grass has all disappeared so it becomes like a lawn- too much stock, or too long in the paddock.
