and i dnt think tht wmsp would with stand the permanount outside conditions through winter
Can we have this in english as I`m struggling to work out what the hell you are on about, because if you are saying that the Hippos at West Midlands Safari Park do not use the outdoor enclosure all year round, you are wrong they do as I have seen them in the water in December last year!

I think he's trying to say they need an indoor area too... Well, they have one but its a very basic looking 'Garage-style' building, adjacent to this 'resting' area. I'd be interested to know if there is an indoor pool.(yes/no?) I don't know how they fared during last winter's heavy snowfalls(after December) but my guess is they were probably outdoors a lot of the time even then too. I think Flamingo Park's are shut inside in bad winter weather as they DO have a heated indoor pool (as do Whipsnade's of course).

@ Pertinax thanks for that it makes a bit more sense now from your reading of it.As to if they have an indoor pool not a clue have never been inside the house yet,if they do have a pool in cannot be very big given the size of the House.

and soz i didnt know tht they stayed out all yr judging by the house tht looks easy enough to get them to go in

if they came to longleat they probably wouldnt be able to breed.

Not unless they got a male.

The indoor house is easily accessed by the hippos via a concrete ramp out of the Lake. As ZG says, if there's an indoor pool though, it must be very small. I'd be interested to know if there is one or not if anyone can tell us.

yes if they got a male then u will have baby results but the hippos are nitoriousley hard to round up and put in the lake. and if you have babies the cows will be aggresive tawords the boats

I sort of hope they don't intend to breed them any more.

Unless any additional animals have been added (are the facilities at WMSP able to cope with introductions of new hippo?), this group would just be the original pair and their offspring from Windsor, with the facility paid for by Windsor when they were rehoused at WMSP on its closure (possibly why the house is not dissimilar). I think 2.1 were sent from Windsor (including a male born to the pair) so I am assuming either they have produced many females, or a number of males were sent elsewhere (Flamingoland?).

and I love the breezeblock chequerboard screening for the vehicles in the background. Its going that extra mile that a solid wall wouldn't have.
