It's not as bad as some people make out, but half a dozen animals that size that spread their dung about on purpose is going to make quite a big mess, especially when you can't just have a keeper pop in and scoop out the worst of it.
Whipsnade's Hippo water is dung-filled sometimes- but this is different, its also foetid, black and foul smelling. The Hippos have to live in that and I'm surprised they haven't been told to do something about this.

More to the point it wasn't just this Hippo that kept rolling over and doing this there were another 2 that did while we were watching,have to say in all my years of zoo visiting I have never seen any Hippo do this before,was 20 minutes that I will never forget!
