The enclosure that you see was built some years back, because of the soil and bad drainage on site it was decided to use concrete to form a good foundation for the uprights, also when the ground is very wet and soggy it gives a dry area for the cats to walk on.
Enclosures built after this one including the Puma one still use concrete for the uprights, the areas around the edge have a drainage membrane put in,then road plane is put and wacked into place,we then use a wood chip over the top, this has worked very well for us and continue to use this method, also its more cost affective,we review constantly how we build and how cost affective it is,a lot of the older building practises was copied from our sister park in Broxbourne, Paridise Wildlife Park but due to the nature of our site we have adapted.
This will let you know how old a 0ne of the enclosures is,if your old enough you may have heard of Challenge Anika from the TV series, built one in 2 days with the help of the Army cool.
