Roseate Cockatoo 5th September 2011

Is roseate cockatoo a common name for this species in England? I've only ever known them as galahs.

Only in Australia are they called galahs. The rest of the world know them as Roseate or Rose-breasted Cockatoos.

How bizarre! I do love them though. I even have one, although he lives at my parents because I can't have pets where I'm living.

More and more people in the UK are calling them Galahs, but I stick with Roseate Cockatoo. There are quite a few other Australian psittacines with a different common name (or more often used alternative name) here than in their native land.

Its is a West Australian Galah to. Race roseicapillus
In the east ours have a red eye ring instead of the grey in this photo.
