This enclosure is 32 acres in size and houses a very large pride of lions
This drive-through reserve is 32 acres in size and houses a very large pride of lions. The reserve in the background houses the monkeys and bongoes

The guidebook says "Woburn's lion park is 32 acres in size and is one of the largest in Europe. There is an air of anticipation as you drive in, the reserve opens up before you and somewhere ahead is the largest predator of the African savannah."

This isn't hard to believe when you read on their promotional leaflet that the whole road safari is 350 acres and the Wild World Leisure Park area is another 40 acres.

Am proud of Woburn then, most other safari parks give such a small area over too big cats.

I got the impression that the lion park was the centrepiece of the collection, and they certainly have far more room in their reserve than in any of the others (a close second would be the mixed species reserve for rhinos, zebras, elands etc.)

I wasn't sure whether this place was worth a visit, but now am thinking its a must :)

I have felt the same for many years and have never been there before, but I am glad I did because the reserves were very naturalistic and I came away wishing I hadn't waited so long to visit. The only thing to consider is that, being a safari park, there can be long queues in the reserves, but you can drive round as many times as you like (I went round twice) so hopefully the reserves will be quieter at certain times of the day. The cars go round in two lanes of traffic but there aren't any stopping places, so everyone stops in the lanes and that causes a bottleneck. It's the only way to see the animals properly and take photos though! The walk-through enclosures are also well designed so the Leisure Area is worth a look too :)
