Not yet they don't bongorob! (unless they have miraculously created a new paddock in the 2 weeks since I last went)They were supposed to be creating an access to the African plains area but that has supposedly been shelved for the time being. And its summer at the moment, havent you noticed!
I don't think its that small anyway, but they definitely need to sort something more spacious as the majority of their exhibits are much more generous than this one.
its just weird that there are massive enclosures for big cats and lemurs, baboons e.t.c and the biggest animal they have (that is giraffe) have got a small courtyard pen.

It is interesting to see that they have used small rocks in the centre to try to prevent the giraffes from consuming those nice fresh little trees!
It is widely thought that the giraffes will not cross the rocks to get to the trees - unfortunately I have seen instances where that is not the case! They will indeed step over the rocks, especially when there is a large gap between rocks and trees. However it may work when the rocks cover the ground right up to the trees. Also all they need to do is stretch their necks to reach them anyway.

Those "fresh little trees" have been there since the enclosure opened. The rocks seam to work as I think the slope was supposed to be enough to stop the giraffes from getting at the trees. Then one day one of the giraffes was found stood on the top nibbling away at the foliage.
Its quite deceptive how large the enclosure is,and also how large that island is in the centre. I am attending Y.W.P. later today so will try and get a photo or 2 with the giraffes in shot to give a better sense of scale of things.
I will also ask one of the ever helpful park rangers what the plans are regarding the paddock situation too.
