When the 2nd enclosure is finished then the walkway will go all the way round the back of the S.American Viva exhibit and out close to the Marmoset/picnic area.
I really don't know what the concrete tubes are for. They could be part of the structure for any dens that maybe built into the banks,or there is enough room in the second enclosure for 2 lakes that may be linked by tubes? There is no evidence of them in the first enclosure at all.
I had a close look around the perimeter of the lake on Sunday,as it was overcast so not causing so much glare from the sun,and noticed that a number of these pre-formed concrete tubes have been sunken into the edge already. I assume this is to provide stability to the edge of the lake and to stop erosion etc. Its amazing how erosive just gentle lapping of small waves ,caused by either polar bears or wind, can be on a bare soil edge. Maybe the ones left on show are for the other enclosures,or maybe there are more to use on this enclosure. I was obviously only viewing from the public walkway so couldn't see round the whole lake.
