Well at the moment they place and hide food all over his enclosure. If you look at some of my other photos zooman then you will see they even put his breakfast inside a breakfast cereal box! They are hiding food under piles of logs, stuffing meat into rock crevices so he has to work to get them out and find them. They also put food out on dustbin lids that float all over the lake. They are even supposedly getting a canoe so they can place food on the small island in the lake so he has to work hard to get his food. One of the keepers said she was hoping to put some sort of a zip wire that they could suspend food from to make him reach up and stretch for it,but they weren't sure if they could incorporate that into 1 or more of the unfinished enclosures. She wants them to add a dead tree or 2 already to give him some more structures. They also are putting different smells and tastes in bags of straw etc to keep him busy. He wasn't too keen on the bag full of Wallaby poo they gave him last Monday!
I hope they keep up the good work.
Although Vicktor was mostly kept separated in the old enclosure (compatibility issues presumably), he was provided with regular access to the new area so will not be completely unfamiliar with such conditions.
Very interesting information, thankyou. I had not realised that he had had some access to a similarly large area previously. That is probably an important contributing factor to the way he uses this enclosure too.
