Auckland Zoo April 2011.
As the only Scheltopusik in New Zealand, and the closest thing we have to a 'snake', I thought there should be a picture of this individual in the gallery. Although its sex is unknown, it is referred to as a she. She is kept in a reasonably quiet location in the zoo, and is usually active if you spend some time there.
According to the zoos website she is only on display during summer, and taken off-display over winter, which I hadn't realised. That probably makes her the only animal in New Zealand zoos to be seasonally off-display!
