Turkmenian Markhor London Zoo 28 September 1985

A male Turkmenian Markhor (Capra falconeri jerdoni). They were kept on the upper level of the Mappin Terraces. There is a story of one of these animals walking along the top of the perimiter fence (like a tigtrope walker), turning around and returning to the enclosure without putting a foot wrong.

Turkmenian Markhor

Zooman 1-- so do I, but I don't think the Mappins are structurally sound any more, which is why they took the goats & sheep off in the first place. Otherwise, they might end up in the aquarium below...
Thinks 'Goodness me, someone else on here from Dorset'

In a 2007 masterplan draft it said 'hills to be refurbished', with a pathway winding in/around them: Wonder if this is still in the long-term pipeline?

Im sure it would not take much to make the mappins useable again lets hope that one day they will be used in this way again tho. or at least with anaimls more suited then some wallaby and emus
