Looking through other photos from Auckland Zoo it would seem that the orangutan exhibit has barely changed over the years. Is it still as bare bones as this photo suggests?
What does the orangutan exhibit look like in 2012? If it is still the same as this photo...yikes! That means lots of wasted space and a few basic wooden frames, and Phoenix Zoo's fairly new $4 million orangutan habitat has been much criticized but in comparison is a masterpiece. Auckland Zoo seems like a great little zoo, and hopefully the orang enclosure is one of the few weak elements. I'd love to visit one day but it is a 15-hour flight from Vancouver, Canada, and it would cost a small fortune for a vacation.
