Orangutan Enclosure, September 2011.

This is the larger of two enclosures for Bornean Orangs, which is L-shaped - this is the right-hand end.

Exhibit opened in ~1990, originally held Chimpanzees, which moved to Hamilton Zoo in 2005.

This exhibit looks MUCH better than how it used to appear in the past, with far more extensive climbing frames. Thanks for updating us overseas ZooChatters! Melbourne Zoo has some fantastic sway poles all throughout its orangutan/siamang complex and I wonder if Auckland would consider implementing those poles in this habitat? That way in theory the orangutans could brachiate across their exhibit and barely even touch the grass.
