Following on from the recent photo of the tapirs being unusually showy, these two photos were taken at about 10:20am, and I saw them do this again a few days later around 12. I guess luck was on my side, but it was great to see these two taking a relaxing dip.

i have never seen a tapir swim before, one of my dream pictures to take, AMAZING picture though, really wonderful to see

They seem to be swimming/active a lot more since the calf has arrived/ grown. It is very interesting to see. I'm wondering if they will be still be able to be been swimming when they are moved to the Casson/old Elephant House- indoors there is the old Elephant bath, while outside I think the pool may have been covered in?

There's a pool outside in the paddock, but as far as I can remember there isn't one inside. The outdoor pool seems more likely to act as a wallow rather than an opportunity for swimming, as I can't recall there being much extension past the basic 'pond'

Also the old elephant bath is currently the indoor enclosure for anoa having been filled in. I think the external tapir pool is quite big. Inside there is a pool which was built in the camel 'bay' alongside the covered sleeping shelter and the laying of a soil substrate but it's not especially large.
