Angwantibo (from 1972)

Now *this* is a nice species; pretty sure this is the first photo of one of the London animals I have ever seen.

First and worst :D
An experiment with GAF500 film - the only film ever produced in which the grains were almost as large as the frames!
But I'm still glad I got the photo.

I am heaving a sigh, since when I saw the photo captioned I thought it was recent. The Moonlight World works for nocturnal primates; it's a pity the collection has been run down.

I can only imagine the horror in your heart if you had momentarily hoped the species was back in the UK, Ian :P

There supposed to be one in Poznan zoo in the early 2000. It was confiscated in Emirates and sent to Poznan on CITES papers issued for angwantibo, where it was properly identified as lesser slow loris.

Does anyone know when London ceased to hold this species?

1978, according to Zootierliste, which sounds about right.

In one of Gerald Durrell's books (The Overloaded Ark) he writes of the hunt for an angwantibo; I'd always thought that these animals ended up at Paignton, but nothing is listed on ZTL. Did he succeed in bringing any back to the UK? And if so, does anyone know where they did go to?
