Nonsense at the zoo, October 2014

There are some things that are beyond comment....
How much is that costing the zoo? Yikes!

"" (speechless)

I don't have a problem with conceptual art per se it's just that I don't go to a zoo to see art* anymore than I'd go to a gallery to see animals. If this cost ZSL anything more than "spare change" I'm truly appalled -it's not like it's going to bring in extra visitors.

*obviously animal based statues/friezes/murals/etc. are exceptions

Quick Google - Home | Frieze London is a not-for-profit art project and seems to be funded by corporate sponsorship - it is not specific to the zoo, so I wouldn't imagine this is at a cost to ZSL (thankfully).

Errr....am I meant to be looking at the big white crane thing?

If so, maybe someone's found a bit of spare scaffolding from the lion development and called it "art." That, or they're constructing a gallows so they can hang the ***** who thought installing this was a good idea!

I rather like conceptual art, and I've got no particular beef with art popping up in a zoo (especially if it is in some way connected to wildlife, of course).

But this - I think the words are on the cable which extends across the canal - just seemed like pretty poor conceptual art, and the accompanying blurb (on the sign) read as if it had been written by someone attempting to mock such things by clumsily parodying them.
