White rhino pair 1972

Northern male and southern female, but which is which? Paddock of the Casson Elephant House, 1st of March 1972.
Note the mandrill exhibit on the left, part of the new Sobell Pavilion, and the Gift Shop on the right.

I think the male Ben is on the left(nearer the puddle) but that's only a guess.

I remember that Gift Shop too- rather like(or maybe it was) a Portakabin.

Definitely looks like a cottoni on the left of the picture.

I am sure you're correct; "Ben" is definitely the animal on the left.

One wonders how different things would have been had he been transferred to Dvur Kralove earlier.
