what species is that?

I think thats an African Spurred Tortoise. We have 2 or 3 adults and a few babies at the moment I think.

seen some photos of these guys, some unqiue looking turtles!

This is a Star Tortoise - Auckland do not have African Spurred Tortoises, and there are likely none in NZ.

I think she meant Leopard Tortoises but got the wrong name.

@Chlidonias I'm pretty sure that's an Indian Star-Tortoise

@Escher Nicholls yes, the photo is a Star Tortoise. I was referring to the "African Spurred Tortoise" comment, given that Auckland at that time only had adult Star Tortoises (four of them), but they had three adult Leopard Tortoises plus about a dozen babies which they had bred there.
