Javan Rhino

Indian rhino indoor pool

An Indian rhino in the indoor area of Rhinos of Nepal.
From the title I thought we had a claimer of the prize- but no...!:D

I think(not sure) it may be Hugo in this photo too, and the colouring of his skin looks damp, like he's been in recently. We do know he uses the Indoor Pools when they let him access this house, though I think he may still be the only one.;)

It is a nice (even excellent) House. But see how there's only one rhino in there (the bull) when this video was shot- though they've made it look like there are more by filming him in two different places!

I don't know if the two mothers and calves are still using the old house/sheds-if so it can only be because they are nervous of the young calves and watermoats. Even several years since it opened, this House still seems not being used to its full capacity.

From the way the paddocks were laid out, it seemed to me as if one mother and calf had access to this indoor house (though I don't know). One of the paddocks (which seemed to be the largest in my opinion) seemed as if it should have access to the main house. Then there was a paddock next door to this with a mother and youngster, and then I think there was a paddock on the other side of the bridge with a single female (I think Asha).

Photo attached of which paddock I mean with the mother and youngster :)

I think you will find one or both of the two main Paddocks have direct access to both the new building (via a small connecting yard and gates at the back of it) and also into the old sheds from under the bridge. In other words, they can potentially access all the areas. The old original(simple) paddock obviously connects just with the old sheds.

It seems the young female 'asha' is living in the old paddock currently, so the bull may be permanently(?) moved into the new house now?

I think when you see the females and calves in the daytime outside in the paddocks, they are still using the old sheds at night(or they were when the calves were small) At some stage(maybe already, I don't know) presumbly they will use the new house indoors too.

When i was at Whipsnade on Monday there was what looked like a old male in the new house, no water in the pools in the house. The younger male was in the paddock going towards the Guar Paddock, and the impression i got was the 2 cow,s and calf,s where being housed at night in the old house, but could be wrong.
