The fencing wasnt there during the summer?
Im guessing its because a cheetah tried to escape,Anyone got any reasons behind this?
It looks like it could be just as a temporary fixture while new males are brought in etc.
Shame really that the moat doesnt work but lets hope its temporary.
They did add extra electric wire to the visitors side of the moat not long after it opened, guess that didn't even work. If they plan on leaving the fence there then the moat seems like a huge waste of space.
I presume this is the enclosure on the western or hippo side, rather than the eastern or kob side of the exhibit. That fence was still there when I visited in February and I was equally unsure why it was there.
I think they ought to put some African waterfowl on these pools. White-faced whistling ducks might look nice, but they might interest the cheetahs too much. How about maccoa ducks?
The cars in the background plus my vague recollection of the day make me pretty sure its at the hippo side. I was really doisappointed by the amount of fencing on view, didnt seem to have the same quality of esthetic appeal as the lion exhibit did
Oh dear! not much on escapes on the internet either! are they going to make the moat deeper?.That could be the reason why the fencing is there at the moment. THe fence doesnt look permanent i would of thought it would have more of an African theme to it if it were staying.
Well lets hope it doesnt last.
