Plaque for the opening of the Elephant House

Is the Whipsnade elephant house better than the London Zoo elephant house (i.e., designed for actual elephants rather than flying elephants)?

Simple answer yes.

I never knew that was it's official name.

Neither did I until I saw it on this visit.

The original barn housed a herd of 22 White Rhinos. It was later converted for Elephants, plus a big outdoor paddock with moated ditch, scratching posts etc. Then later a seperate Bull House(no public access) and sandyard and auxilliary paddocks were added.

Its simple but practical.

The current Whipsnade Elephant House provides much better elephant accommodation than the Casson Pavilion at London Zoo.

However it wasn't really designed for "actual elephants" as the building was originally constructed for white rhinos.
