It looks like folk leaving the indoors here, what is the indoor viewing like now ? And do you still access the old part of the house as before or not now?

New calf doing okay?

The new indoor viewing is pretty much the same as all the rest of the new Giraffe Houses built in the last 5 years,so its nothing ground breaking in design just does what it says on the tin!As for the old viewing area its now closed off to the public. The calf was looking good when we visited.

Thanks, I think I can picture it perfectly.;) So for the animals themselves, has their old indoor area been added to the new area or is it still subdivided/partitioned into the new and old areas- if you see what I mean.

Good to hear the calf is doing well, I think it may be the first female they have had since the mother was born there herself. I think this group have suffered from a high % of male births since the original 2.3 arrived there.

What is the size of the Whipsnade giraffe exhibit like compared to the zoo? Do they have a lot more room at Whipsnade?

Certainly more than Regent's Park, but not as much more as they could have given the scale of Whipsnade. Always found that a little odd, even given that so much of the site being exposed to some very cold winds may be a factor.

The new bit has just been built on to the front of what was already there.

Over the years, Whipsnade's record with giraffe breeding has not been very impressive, certainly not when compared to London's. The present Whipsnade group must be the most successful the Park has ever had.

Yes, I know, I saw it in October during the final stages of building.. But what's the interior like for the Giraffes- do they have one large area (combined new and old) now or is the old part still partitioned/divided from the rest?

And even with this group, all of the original 2.3 imported are now dead(?) and only one of the three current females was born into it, the other two are much more recent arrivals. So it hasn't exactly been a self-sustaining group, partly because there have been more male births.

Ah I get the question now,the new area is just one large area they use the old area as it was used before, but now with the new bit added on!
