Two of the four blesbok (Damaliscus pygargus phillipsi) currently mixed with the roan antelope, white rhino, sitatunga in Spicers' Paddock.
 
Good to see a mix of species like this once again at Whipsnade. I hope they continue gradually over time gaining even more new Ungulate species, so restoring the collection to something like its former glory in that area. They still have the space potentially to eclipse virtually all other ungulate collections in the UK if they were to put their mind to it.
 
It's not the space, it's the stabling. Whipsnade has never had enough heated housing for its ungulates. I sometimes think that the trouble was that the initial model species was Pere David's Deer, a large species that could cope quite well with Bedfordshire winters.
