A bit later than that actually; two Thomson's gazelles lingered on at Whipsnade into the mid 1990s - although there was a time, many years earlier, when Whipsnade's herd of Thomson's gazelle numbered around thirty individuals.
Anyway it is certainly great to have the species back at Whipsnade.
