Wonderfull looking animal, I have never seen one of them before, what spicies is it? is it some kind of yak?

The takin's Species name is B. taxicolor, the Family is Bovidae like Yaks but they seperate at the Genus branch

Yup, Takins and Yaks are in two different subfamilies, with Yak (Bos grunniens) being in the subfamily Bovinae (Cattle and Spiral horned antelopes) and Takin (Budorcas taxicolor) being in the subfamily Caprinae (Goats and Sheep)

In fact the 4 recognized subspecies of Takin (Budorcas taxicolor) are their own full species now

Perfect animal to keep in a cold weather zoo.
