Black Bear Exhibit

June 7th, 2009.
I wonder if the park has considered integrating its ultra-rare, all-white, Kermode/spirit bear in with the regularly coloured black bears? I'm not sure if that would work out, but a rotational policy could also suffice until the spirit bear received its new enclosure in 2013. The bear habitat in the photo was only just built a few years ago and it gives the animals ample space to roam.

According to the news story on the Kamloops Daily News website:

Clover can't be put in with the park's three other black bears. The dynamic with Hamilton, five, and two females, with the addition of another young male, could be bad, even though Hamilton is neutered.

He's not a good fit with the grizzlies, either, so it's just as well that kermodes tend to be solitary creatures.

With Clover's unique kermode genetics, the park won't want him to be neutered, Grant added.
