This entire area (much larger than what is shown in the photo) will become Land of the Lemurs in 2017. The link below contains a detailed map of the walk-through area and there will be 2 habitats for the lemurs. While the almost $8 million project is exciting news for residents of Calgary, I can already foresee issues with congestion as visitors will enter and exit along the same boardwalk. For a zoo that attracts 1.2 million annual visitors, and with giant pandas on the horizon, congestion issues will only increase as years go by.
As exciting as the new lemur exhibit sounds, I do wish the exhibit could still hold bongo antelope as I feel like it provides a really nice forested area for the forest dwelling species which seems to get very open exhibits. What is your thoughts on the new exhibit coming snowleopard in comparison to what the exhibit once held?

The exhibit was great for bongos but not so impressive for visitors as actually locating an antelope was an exercise in frustration. A walk-through lemur yard will allow for a much more exciting, immersive experience for families...most of whom have no idea what a bongo is anyway.
The lemur walk-through will be a great addition to the zoo and provide a wonderful experience for families. I was just reading the zoo's master plan and I am disappointed to learn that they are planning to add bongo into their African Savanna exhibit in an open range setting. As much as I like bongos, I feel that there are definitely better suited antelope for the open
Savannah exhibit although I have a feeling the bongos will be added due to their unique appearance when compared to most antelope species
