This is the second (and smaller) elephant yard of what was once "Elephant Crossing" but is now known as "Eurasian Gateway". After shipping out its herd of elephants, Calgary Zoo currently has a Greater One-Horned Rhino and he has full access to both yards and the barn and the space seems enormous for a single specimen. However, beginning in 2018 there will be 4 Giant Pandas and a blueprint of the new exhibit is contained on the link below:
The full cost of the addition of Giant Pandas to the zoo is close to $40 million but that includes everything from new washrooms to the repairing of a pedestrian bridge. Zoo attendance is expected to jump up to a whopping 1.6 million per year and the establishment needs to brace itself for some massive crowds.
