Seriously, I visited Edmonton Valley Zoo this past August and it was a rainy, chilly day, and I can only imagine what the -16 Celsius temperature must have felt like during your visit. Were the seals in their outdoor pool or confined to the indoor aquatic area?

- it almost could be......although maybe then would hold ringed seals.
Yes, v. cold but seems a local zoochatter visited the week after in -30!! See review under Edmonton Zoo forum, which pretty much sums up my visit too.
The seals were undergoing training indoors with keepers but had access to outdoor enclosure. One of the harbour seal was in and out during the time I was watching.
Incidentally, did you see one of them arctic ground squirrels on your visit? I think they were probably hibernating on mine (no show on two visits during the day and no footprints in the snow).
I loved the new Arctic Shores complex and I think that it is easily the best part of the entire zoo. However, I failed to see either an Arctic fox or an Arctic ground squirrel when I visited in August.
