As can be assumed from viewing this photo, the 1.2 acre hippo exhibit has perhaps half of its space taken up by the massive pool that is in the enclosure. That's not a pool, it's a lake! However, there doesn't appear to be any kind of filtration system, and I've never seen the water drained, so it is probably as dirty as any body of water can possibly be.
