Has Marineland decided to phase out orcas? I believe that there is currently only the single killer whale at the park, and with many deaths over the years and belugas taking over the pools it does not seem likely that more orcas will be added in the future.
Marineland currently only houses a single wild-caught female named Kiska after SeaWorld terminated the loan on eight-year old male Ikaika, citing issues with veterinary care, husbandry and training. (Source: Orca News 2011). Ike moved to SeaWorld San Diego in November to join the six (now seven) other orcas there.
There have been rumours of the park attempting to source new orcas, but this is a difficult task as it seems unlikely that any park would be willing to part with a whale and the logistical and ethical problems with capturing wild orcas are huge. Shouka, a nineteen-year old female at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, has been the subject of the latest whisperings in conjunction with scrutiny over her living conditions - she is housed alone without contact with any other cetaceans.
To put it bluntly, nobody really knows and it will be a while yet if anything was to happen...
