Apparently the tapirs (both malayan and mountain) at the centre have access to an enormous area of land. When I went on a tour around the park in early 2008 I was told that sometimes the tapirs are not seen for a few days at a time. There is food laid out for them, but also 10-acre exhibits that are thick forests. It would be difficult to find a tapir in the undergrowth, and in the warmer months they are allowed frequent access to the massive forest surrounding the conservation centre.

You are right. it was amazing to see those mountain tapirs running after each other (the male after the female - it was the mating season) screaming with an echo.
i know that both tapirs have a vast land to roam around - in the malayan tapirs i saw only the two offsprings , their parents were out and i've been told that sometimes they dont see them for weeks even.
In general the center is giving its animals with a very big living areas.
