Spotted Necked Otter

African Rainforest Pavilion
You caught that one in a rare unactive moment. Everytime I go by them they have always been darting around the exhibit. The only animal I actually get lucky with every time.

This is the only good picture I've ever gotten of this species. I tried to get a decent picture of the female who was swimming around the exhibit, but my reflection got in the way!

Ya they move far to fast in the water to ever get a good picture, forget the constant problems of glass.

I had heard there was possiblity that Lila was pregnant and she was being kept off exhibit while they waited. Guess she wasnt pregnant. Oh well shes young and if Fred is fertile eventually their could be pups.

I hate their exhibit. It's so small and tucked away. I usually walk passed it giving them only a glance. They need way more room.

Oh I absoultely agree with you. I would have taken the space in the Chameleon nursery and use it instead for the otter exhibit and have a smaller Chameleon collection. That would all be otter exhibit. I think that could have worked well. Probably left it as is though because all the plumbing was there.

Other than the orangutans, this is my least favourite exhibit in the zoo. I have always wanted the otters to be moved into either the ibis or softshell turtle exhibit.

Yeah, don't even get me started on the Orangutans' exhibit.

No one wants to get started on the organs. And yet when they announce something about it we will all be incredibly into that discussion.

I forgot about the possiblity of Dotty and the ibis exhibits. I would probably leave the Ibises because I kind of like the jungle feel of their exhibit. Lets add Dotty in with them and take over his exhibt... a total waste of space for just one creature who isnt that interesting or lively. Dont get me wrong Dotty is very nice and his size is impressive but without underwater viewing and such a good sized exhibit its a waste. He can move and still have space. THe otters can go there and really have space. We bump up the ground and force underwater viewing. It would be awesome. I bet in a big exhibit there the otters would have no trouble breeding.

I'm surprised to see that people are viewing the otter exhibit as being tucked away. While it definitely isn't my favourite exhibit in the zoo, I've definitely always thought of it as one of the most passed by and noticed exhibits in the pavilion! You have to go by it if you wish to visit the rest of the pavilion (if you enter from the Gorilla Rainforest entrance/direction), and I've always thought that it almost seems to pop out onto the path!
