Some time ago I got a nice series of shots of it displaying and turning 360, but not a good full front one - then yesterday - just walked in, swung the camera up, first click did it, although of course I took many more.
That is a fantastic shot. I have never seen their wings before. I thought they were rather plain and boring but wow. Just so impressive looking. I could see them doing that to scare an enemy. Come up on this boring looking thing then bam your facing what looks like a giant face. His or her head blends right in. Very cool. Thanks for sharing that one.
A Piping Guan was standing a few feet away - every time it turned toward the bittern the wings came up.
Actually just learned this is not a bittern but Eurypyga Helias, more like cranes and rails, but common name Sun Bittern.
This one does not vocalize too often that I have noticed, although it is a beautiful sound. Maybe not too noticeable because that aviary has a very vocal Plush-crested Jay and a Blue-crowned Motmot.
