You were right Fintan's mane really is coming in nicely. I would agree it is now fuller than Lindy's. He is going to be one stunning male probably in a years time. He is good looking now too. Part of me misses the mohawk though. He really rocked it.
I purposely took this picture so you could see his mane. It was strange seeing them from so far away after being only inches away from them a few days ago.
In August 2011, 15 year old female white lion Nokanda died of cancer. Then in October 2011, 20 year old male Rowdy died of old age related illnesses. I remember an article at the time said keepers felt like he died of a broken heart after Nokanda's death. That left the zoo with Rowdy and Nokanda's with now fourteen year old sons, Lindy and Jerroh who are both neutered, hence Jerroh's lack of a mane and Lindy's small mane.
In 2012 the zoo imported 3 white lion cubs from South Africa, male Fintan and females Makali and Lemon. Lemon has been spayed do to a genetic issue but Fintan and Makali are starting to show interest in breeding so there could be more lions running around the zoo at some point soon.
