Ya its the only reason I posted it. Pretty lucky shot on my part because with them being right up against the window it was insanely crowded down there and a series of rude individuals kept stepping in my way.
Good question Animal. Everything would look better if it was done in fake rock or at least painted to look like rock. Unfortunately Toronto doesnt always finish things off the way it should, most likely due to unexpected cost overruns. When this exhibit was built the whole of the savanna minus the former elephant exhibit, the former giraffe exhibit and the hippo exhibit were excluded due to a lack of funds. It's a massive section of the zoo so when costs began to rise it probably started to cost certain areas those nice finishing touches like rockwork inside the lion exhibit. But the zoo has tons of uncovered concrete all over the zoo. Some in areas that are relatively untouched since the exhibits were built early on. All of Indo Malaya would fall into this category. And some areas are brand new, like the Panda exhibit, where the rush to just get it done probably eliminated the fine detail touches like making the panda house not feel like a prison for visitors. Hopefully when the Eurasian Wilds opens this summer because of the extra time they have taken nice finishing touches will be added to the visitor areas. I kind of hope they add trees to the back of the new snow leopard/ Sea Eagle exhibit because its a concrete eyes sore from the zoomobile.
I didnt see her at that moment but it was nuts down there. With them right against the glass everyone was standing there. I tried to take 10 pictures of them there and this was the only one where some twit didnt step in front of me. So annoying. However I swung around to the other side of the exhibit and there was Lemon chilling on top of the rocks while Makali was just starting to flake out in the cave. I would guess she was up there all along.

TZfan we are on the same page with you, people especially kids go nuts when they see animals and its sure is hard to get nice picture without people heads or arms in a shot and don't let us start how angry we get when kids start tap on the glass
Sadly it wasnt the kids who were my problem. It was adults who believe they deserve to be up at the glass more than others. Childless adults are way more annoying than kids who dont know better. One of them stepped in front of me then said sorry and did it again not even a second later. Sorry only works if you alter your behaviour to avoid the offense a second time. Some people...
And kids tapping on the glass is annoying but I blame their parents. How can we expect them to know better if their parents dont teach them. You take your kids somewhere you need to explain to them what is and is not acceptable there. It is acceptable for little ones to go closest to the windows or fencing because they are kids and should enjoy their day. Taller people can wait. It is not acceptable to smash on the windows, scream, or ruin other peoples day with your behaviour. But thats all on the adult with them until they are teens, then its on them.
