Gemini and Sable

Gemini is a female calf. I thought we had 4 females (Sable, Shadow, Amy and Gemini) and the rest were males (Zodi, Hudson and Hubert). The guide said only one was a male. They said look for curved back horns to tell that its a female. I thought I saw an even amount of curves to straights. Someone else should talk a look.

Is it possible that some of the males are off exhibit, and that's why the guide said there was only one?

If there are 7 yaks, that's much more than I thought we had. Last time I went to the zoo and rode the zoomobile, I only remember seeing 4.

Im fairly certain I saw all 7. I checked my photos. And counted up 5. I scewed up another shot (shocking I know) which would have been 6. And I was sitting in a spot where I missed a photo of a 7th yak in the first yard. I'm almost positve all 7 were out.

Maybe on your past visits the boys havent been out because they arent getting along with the Przewalski's Horse? All the horses were in the yard you dont drive through and the mouflon were out in the first exhibit but they and the yaks had access to all three yards.

Could be another mistake like the whole mouflon controversy we had going on.

It's completely possible that this is like what happened with the mouflon, so I guess we'll have to wait and see if anyone can find out the truth.

On my visit, I'm guessing I just wasn't able to see all of the yaks because most of them were at the back of their exhibit.

You're right we will likely have to wait and see what others have to say about the male female ratio. At least I can confirm that 7 exist.

They were all close to the road yesterday, even baby Gemini. I went through the exhibit twice and this photo is from the first time. The second time she was up near the fence between yard one and two all by herself. Sable likely was one of the adults nearby but clearly she has no problem bringing Gemini within feet of the zoomobiles path. Hopefully this means you will get a good view of her on your next visit.

You're lucky that you got so close to the yaks on the zoomobile. The last time I rode it, the wild horses were the ones right by the path and the yaks were so far away, you could barely see them. I hope I'll get to see Gemini up close on my next visit.

I hope you do get to see Gemini up close. She is pretty cute and she will only be small for a short time.

Maybe the yaks arent big fans of the horses so with Gemini being so young they are keeping them seperate until shes a little bigger and stronger.

I've also heard that there is only one male, but I can't remember which of the three is the male... I leaning towards Hubert.

Well now we have a new Eurasian drive thru mystery on our hands.

Today on the zoomobile the commentator said that there are 7 yaks at the zoo. Not all of them are on exhibit at all times. 1 is male, the rest are female, which includes baby Gemini.
