The spacious Takahe enclosure, with the lone inhabitant visible by a shrub in the right-hand background.
Have they only got the one? There were two when I was there a little over a year ago. I would have thought they'd have bred in this large enclosure.

I only saw one, and I think the signage suggested there was only one, but I don't have a photo so can't be sure. I haven't heard anything to suggest a change in numbers, so if there were two in 2011 there probably is still two, and I missed one.

Both takahe are still there, Bud and Natural are two males, so unfortunately we wont see any babies! (they are retiree's from the breeding program) Usually you find Bud is out on display all day, but Natural prefers the comfort of the tree line.
