Grevy's Zebra

Since Tori has had one foal and two miscarriages in the last two years, keepers are trying to keep her quiet and stress-free until she gives birth.

Two miscarriages? I thought there was only the one last spring/summer... Plus Leia. Hopefully all goes well this time.

She was visibly pregnant last August and September so soon after that. Haven't asked about it because Shani lost one, in August I think, and later died on exhibit overnight. Keepers were pretty upset so I did not ask any questions.

Wonder how far along Tori is if she had a miscarriage in the late summer. Three miscarriages in one year for the zoo seems like a lot, especially when played a role in the mother's death. That seems like a concerning amount. I'm sure the zoo is on top of it but still it seems odd.

For a while keepers were all sure Tori was pregnant again, but then she cycled recently and was bred by Jake - they have her on a diet now!

She and Jake are on exhibit daily, Lori-Ann and Leia in the barn, and Luke in the off-exhibit holdings with Dudley, the Przewalski.

Oh well that's a let down. I was looking forward to a foal again. Guess we get to restart the 13 month waiting game if she is even pregnant and doesn't have another miscarriage.

I would like to see Leia move on so Lori Ann can join Jake and Tori but I'm glad she can keep Leia company for now. They could rotate Tori and Lori Ann with Jake to give him a chance to breed with both while keeping Leia with a friend. Nice to hear Luke has company in surplus Przewalski male Dudley. Probably a good thing for both of them.
