It was almost impossible to take a photo of them between the mesh and reflection off the glass. Any tips for this exhibit?

It's one of the harder exhibits to get a clear shot of the animals, especially, when they're moving.

I still struggle with getting clear photos in this exhibit. My tip would be, a long focal length, and waiting for them to stop moving. Position of the sun also helps, as the reflection of the glass and the fencing can be a pain. Overcast days, are a bit better, but not by much.

That does work for helping glare, but it can become cumbersome. I've also seen people use a black umbrella to block out the glare.

Those are great tips. Will have to try them some time.

I think I was doomed by the time of day and the light. No matter where I moved and I tried everywhere I just could not find a spot that would work. I hope when they eventually get around to a new jaguar exhibit (who knows when) they will try to improve photo opportunities. Jaguars are some of the most beautiful animals at the zoo.

is the glass behind the mesh? If you can touch the glass then put your lens against it and you won't get the reflections.

No the glass and mesh are separate. Normally I would have tried putting the camera right against it but glass is on a slant so I unless they were directly in front of the window on the ground.

Chlidonias, that's a pretty good option as well, but as TZFan said, a section of the glass is heavily slanted making that hard to do. In most cases, putting the lens right up against the glass would help reduce glare almost completely, in which case the only obstacle would be the distortion from the glass, which people taking casual photos don't mind.
