Empty Polar Bear Exhibit

March 2009. This is half of the old polar bear pit, which has been empty since the surviving bear (Tuk) died in 1997. This enclosure is outside and slightly apart from the main aquarium entrance, and I'm surprised that the abomination is still standing in 2009.

Or could be somethin' against the climate-change! The remains of melted polarbears ;)

This empty exhibit was recently used in an episode of the television show, "Psych".

Have they torn down the old zoo beyond the polar bear pit?

I remember visiting Stanley Park in 1989 and loving the park, but thinking the zoo was small and rather sad. They had penguins (Magellianic?), spider monkeys, a small tropical/primate house with some herp terrariums and Wolf's guenons, kangaroos, and the polar bear pit.

The rest of the zoo has been demolished for a number of years now, and the only section that remained open was the farm/children's petting zoo. However, that tiny area was closed this past January and so all that is left is this ugly, concrete polar bear pit.

I don't think the old pit is that ugly. With some cleaning up i could be a reminder of the old zoo maybe with some signage talking about zoo history or something like that.
Even old things like this have some potential left in them.
