Elk Chapultepec Zoo - Ungulate nerd says these are likely tule elk. I believe him.

Didn't you say on another thread that the elk at Chapultepec Zoo came from Los Angeles Zoo ? If so they are for sure Tule elk (Cervus canadensis nannodes) because that is the only subspecies of Cervus canadensis that was in Los Angeles Zoo's collection, the head shape and coat coloration of this specimen also looks like that of a Tule elk

U.N., are you saying that LA Zoo went out of them? This subspecies sure is one of the gems of the S. Western US I would say ..!

Dwarfism … yet huge … by comparison to other cervid species in the genus Cervus .. and a subspecies that is still sadly fairly low in numbers (about 4,000). To think it once numbered 500,000!

Kifaru Bwana, unfortunately the Los Angeles Zoo no longer has Tule elk and they have probably been out of their collection for a while now, and on top of that AZA wants to phase them out all together but luckily you can still see them at Oakland Zoo and in the wild in Northern California, a great place to see them in the wild is at Point Reyes National Seashore where I saw a whole herd in early 2008

Tule elk are an interesting cervid, they are the smallest subspecies of Cervus canadensis in North America, they have a very interesting conservation story, at one time due to hunting and poaching, their population dropped as low as 28 individuals

He has a missing Bay Tine which should be beside the Brow Tine.

They should cull that one.
