I felt it was ironic calling a wild habitat a lake that is inside the metropolitan area of the fourth largest city on the planet. Fellow Researchers at the university where i teach consider that the axolotl of lake xochimilco will disappear completely from its habitat in about 20 years or less.
Ironic indeed as the lake is inside the Metropolitano area and pollution from the city is killing it in a rather crude way. One would expect that not just us naturalists would be concerned with water quality, but that the govt. would actually act upon environmental clean up and stop the dumping of refuse and effluents into Lake Xochimilco.
