Yes , Los Coyotes is only for animals from central mexico and in particular the Altiplano highlands where mexico city is located. The volcano rabbits have bred so well at Chapultepec and Los Coyotes that some have been returned to national parks on the Popocatepetl and Iztacihuatl volcano slopes. The wild population is stable at 3,500 teporingos in 2010 according to CONABIO, the official mexican wildlife organization. The volcano rabbits are endemic to the mentioned areas. Only the mexico city zoos have breeding populations of volcano rabbits currently.
