Entrance gate at Powell Gardens. Located southeast of Kansas City, Missouri, Powell Gardens is a botanical gardens that provides excellent birding opportunities (is an eBird birding hotspot) & hosts an annual butterfly festival with native & tropical butterfly species. There is an approx 4.5 mile nature trail in addition to the normal garden paths. This trail features a variety of native habitats and I have observed not just bird species, but native Missouri mammals, reptiles, amphibians, & a host of invertebrates. A visit through the week provides the best viewing along the trail with little to no visitors on the hike. Highly recommend a visit if your are in the KC Metro.
