It looks like San Diego Zoo has the Cape subspecies and not the East african subspecies, I wonder what part of the zoo they keep it in because I would like to see it !!!
Also does anyone know if the Caldwell Zoo still has Black backed jackals ?
Those jackals are long gone, as are the ones at Oklahoma City Zoo. To be honest I cannot think of a single AZA-accredited institution with jackals as they are practically extinct in American zoos.

Thanks for the info Snowleopard, I am sorry to hear that because jackals are very interesting canids, I guess I will have to go outside of AZA to see a jackal of any species, I think they are somewhat common in european zoos If I remember correctly (Black backed and Golden anyway)
Also does anybody know if there are still Side striped jackals (Canis adustus) in captivity ?, I know that they are gone from europe
I recall visiting the private zoo in tyler, tx where jackels were housed with large guenon monkeys, possibly the blue species which I cannot remember the scientific name.
