House and Secondary Sun Bear Exhibit, Asia Precinct, Wellington Zoo, February 2013.

This photo shows the main sun bear enclosure in the left foreground, with the bear's new house at the rear. On the other side of the fence is the secondary bear enclosure, which is smaller and less landscaped than the main exhibit. Behind that is an off-display aviary block containing cockatoos.

Can you get a closer view of the second exhibit or is it designed to be used only as a separation exhibit and this is as close as you can get? I watched a video (which was probably produced by the zoo) about this development when it opened and it made the exhibits seem a lot more immersive than this picture suggests they are.

No, this is all you can see of the secondary enclosure. When I visited there was one bear in that enclosure, and the other in the house, but they both soon moved into the main enclosure, which I think had just been opened up to them.

Its not particularly immersive, although there is open viewing by the lower viewing shelter, and you can definitely get closer to the bears than in their previous enclosure.
