Renovated Sumatran Tiger Exhibit, Asia Precinct, Wellington Zoo, February 2013.

The visitors area around the Sumatran Tiger exhibit has been extensively refurbished, with this new viewing shelter one of the key additions - it features glass windows jutting into the enclosure, which is a big improvement over the chain link viewing that was all that was previously possible.

The viewing area looks far superior to the drab chain-link fencing that was originally in place, and it is amazing what glass viewing will do for visitors. The bright blue colour is an interesting choice, but Zoo Boise in the United States just painted the backdrop of its renovated Sloth Bear exhibit the same colour and while it may be garish it is certainly eye-catching!

I was also going to comment on the colours - reminds me of their Pygmy Marmoset/Emperor Tamarin Dollhouse.

Yes, it definitely improves the viewing. In theory you could now get a great photo of a tiger at Wellington, but I couldn't, as all windows were rain-streaked. There is also a second viewing spot to the left of this photo, which has a lower level with glass windows, and a platform upstairs with open views. Its very nice, with some cool theming, but still the same colours.

I'm not impressed with the colours at all, I think they distract from the animals and aren't even vaguely reminiscent of South-East Asia.
